Gretel Marlena Sawyer is a visual artist and designer working across illustration, surface pattern design and graphic design.

Based between Rutland, London and the Norfolk coast, her work is inspired by nature, textiles, light, and layered materials, translated into expressive visual pieces for brands, products and interiors.

With over two decades of experience in the design industry, she brings a considered, intuitive approach to each project, shaped by a BA (Hons) in Textiles from Goldsmiths, University of London, and early work with leading UK and international brands including The White Company, John Lewis, Anthropologie and Jigsaw.

Gretel’s studio was founded in 2014 as a way of focusing on thoughtful, art-led work for both established and independent clients. Today, she works across illustration, surface pattern design and graphic design, creating work that balances expression with clarity and form.

Alongside client projects, she develops personal collections exploring colour, pattern and layered composition, often drawing on early influences of quilting, embroidery and handmade craft.

The studio takes on a small number of selected projects each year. For commissions and collaborations, you are warmly invited to get in touch.
